  Visa Information

All travellers to Australia must have a valid visa before boarding their plane; they cannot apply for a visa on arrival. The only exception is New Zealand and Norfolk Island passport holders who will be issued a visa on arrival in Australia and normally do not need to lodge a visa application prior to their departure, unless there are character or health concerns.

For the purposes of attending the ICME2012 conference, the participants may wish to consider applying for one of the following visas, based on their role at the event.

1. Business Visas - is the most appropriate option for delegates fulfilling an official role such as speaking/presenting at the event, or if the delegate is employed and is travelling to Australia to be involved in an activity that is related to their profession.

  2. Tourist Visa - is the most appropriate option for delegates whose only purpose is to attend/observe the event.

It is recommends that applicants apply at least 6-8 weeks prior for paper based applications, and at least 2 weeks for electronic visas. For additional information relating to visa applications, please see:
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/business/business-visit-visa-options.htm and
http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/visa-options.htm.

All visa applicants will be required to meet certain character and health requirements as part of their visa application process. The following links provide further information on these requirements, please see:
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/health-requirements/ and
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/character-requirements/.

For visa application purpose, you may need a formal invitation letter from ICME2012 Conference Organization Committee. Please fill in the Form - Information for Visa Application (click here to download). After you fill in the information, please email this MS Word document to conference registration(icme2012_visa@icme2012.org). After you receive the invitation letter, you need to lodge the application at an Australia overseas visa office. Note that to be eligible for an invitation letter, you must be either an invited speaker/guess of the conference or an author who has an accepted paper and already paid the registration fee.

Because of the time needed for collecting information from ICME2012 attendees and communicating with the immigration department, the invitation letters (for assisting visa application) will be sent out from 16 April 2012. After 9 June 2012, we can still accept request for invitation letter, but there is no attendee information being passed to the immigration department.
